      birds nest

I have a green birds nest frag that I obtained recently and was wondering if its okay that the base of the frag is white? I guess you can say that its dead but it seems to be alright towards the middle/top of the frag because it is its normal greenish color. Should I redo the frag and cut the white pieces off or just let it be? Sorry no pics I dont have access to a camera right now.

if the bottom is shaded, due to heavy growth up top, yes, the bottom will die
Just becomes live rock over time

One guy on the boards has a 2.5' colony, only top 8" is alive though
