suggest - put the emergency overflow straight into the sump, and go around the filter sock, because when the sock gets clogged, herbie backs up due to the higher level in the sock.

Both work, but thats been my experience with a two seperate pipe herbie system

Haha, that's a good goal to have. If I remember correctly, you said a long time ago that you wanted to build a DIY Seio controller (AC frequency controller). Did you ever play around with that?
