I'm sorry for recommending that skimmer for $$$,
I'm sorry you ordered the custom made overflow box for it $$,
I'm sorry you built the stand for your skimmer $$,
I'm sorry for recommending the RightNow! system now that all that stuff is not necessary.
But that's what friends are for.
Nice growth on the acro's BTW.

And is vacuuming the sand bed considered essential or just recommended when using the hiatt method?
I have changed my theories on vacuuming the sand. I will vacuum it from now on. I did in my 12g after 2 years and it's fantastic now. I have 7 nassarius snails in the tank and microworms. It's a controversial topic, but I have changed sides.

So i read up a little on this and the hiatt method is just using a canister filter with there special Tri-Base Palletized Carbon. Is there anything else to this or what?

Yes, you have to dose their brand of bacteria as well.

The bacteria is the cheapest part. haha.

I'm still looking for a large canister filter. My god damn tank has practically gone through a natural cycle process at this point. hell I did the first 3 week water change.

Ask Phil (Cyberguy) about tank cycles. If you use enough cured established live rock, you can add fish and corals the same day you set up your tank. Phil has a gorgeous tank that he set up in a single day. I wouldn't recommend it of course, but all you need is established nitrifying bacteria. It doesn't matter where they come from (bottle, live rock, transfered refugium, ect.).

That all there is, bacteria and carbon.
Unless you want pH rock to control your pH, Ca, and Mg.
      Inexpensive, low maintenance.

I very much doubt anything can 'speed cure' live rock in 3-5 days.

"The method most often used for curing uncured live rock is to place it in a completely separate, unlit (to prevent algae bloom problems), heated, well filtered aquarium with powerheads and a protein skimmer for at least a month, but before doing so clean and prepare it by striping the rock of all organisms that are dead or dying off. Once the rock has cured, it can then placed into the intended aquarium for aquascaping aquascaping. For most hobbyists, this type of curing process may not be practical. For those on a tight budget or that don't have the extra room, it may not be feasible to have a complete separate tank running just for this purpose. However, you may be able to swing this type of set up using a suitable sized container such as a large plastic garbage can. And, course you do have the option of cycling uncured live rock directly in a newly set up tank, if need be. So how can you tell when the live rock is cured? Simple. When it doesn't smell anymore, and your water test results for ammonia and nitrite are normal again. This means zero readings on both."

I'm not making any claims, this is what the product does. I'm not here to sell a miracle or cure for cancer, but use a product that I liked and wanted to sell it. There are certain things they do sell that I don't use. That's all.

There are pros and cons to everything.
Pro: don't really use a skimmer anymore, no skimmer noises, cleaner setup, electrical bill slightly lower, water is cleaner
Cons: fish eat lots (almost aggressive), buying more fish food (I feed 4x a day now)
flushing out carbon once a month
output above water, waterfall sounds (preference)

      ppl are always skeptical

example: how can water cut thru anything?
      answer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_jet_cutter

example: how do you speed up an infection? keeping it dirty, not cleaning it
how do you heal an infecton? antibiotics

      example: hiatt method? lol
      answer: look at my tank

If you want to review the product, review the product. I agree, there is zero need for anyone to "bash" a product with proof of concept behind it, unless they have tried it.

However, comments like yours about being a real man/woman do nothing to further this topic or legitimize your product review. Please reconsider your posts in the future.
