i heard it's not good.
They will die. Water out there is about 50somethin and your tank water is higher. Same with snails.

Highly illegal and absolutely not compatible with a tropical reef.

ok thank you guys for all of your help i appreciate it all...and any suggestions you may have
Hermits, snails, conchs, cukes, etc. are too cheap to even consider swiping them from the beach at La Jolla. You can get a pretty decent clean up crew for very little money.

Not to say anything about the legality of it, but honestly the local hermies last just as long as the supposedly "tropical" el cheapo ones you buy at the LFS. And btw, a lot of those cheap "tropical" hermies n snails are in fact illegally collected local ones or highly questionable ones brought over from Baja.
Now whether it's worth while to go piss off the Fish n Game and the moralizing self righteous horde I'd say no -but that's entirely up to you.

Red legged mexican hermits are not illegal, + they eat cyano (seen it)
La Jolla crabs are used to 50-65 degree water, so they die rather fast in reefs
+ are illegal to take
