Need tips on hearty beginners fish.

      Hello to all,

We have recently adopted a fresh water tank from my sons wife when they moved out of state. Its been years for us and we're not having much success, but we're starting to learn some important care lessons. A friend at work who has a Salt Water tank has been helpful and suggested that I post here for some ideas on a few "mistake resistant" fish.

Its a 30 Gallon tank thats a little taller than the normal shape. Theres a name for it but it escapes me at this moment. We've heard about "painted glass fish" as being fairly resilient.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

guppies? not only do they have beautiful colors (especially the males) but they are very hardy. Tolerant to wide range of water conditions. And reproduce easily.

I'm not sure about painted glass fish but it would help us if you let us know what kind of tank you wanted. The general types being community, semi-agressive, cichlids, planted tanks etc. There are a lot of fish out there that are very forgiving in terms of care.

Wow! ty for the quick multiple responses.

it would help us if you let us know what kind of tank you wanted
We think, from your description, that a community tank is probably right along our needs since there is still one survivor and we don't want it killed or injured. I think it may be a White Cloud cuz that sounds familiar!

We just got back from Live Cargo in La Mesa where we picked up a couple of small White Angel fish, a Fancy guppy with a female, and a Neon of some kind (we forgot what kind) its kind of an orange/ red. Were hoping thats a good start, they are "floating" right now to adjust to the tanks temp.

The store said that they will be getting more stock in a few days so we'll go back and see what can be added, keeping these suggestions in mind. I'll try to find some pics of the fish everyone suggests so that we are better armed the next trip.
