Is there any way I can get some kind of visual on somthing like this? A pic or diagram or somthing. Its an interesting idea. I could probrably hide the pipe in the middle of some rock work.

I cant really get any pics because I never took any but you can get pretty creative w/PVC and make a nice looking overflow/return, maybe w/some lockline coming out of the top or something. It could easily be hidden w/some rock or you could coat it w/black foam and LR rubble and then build your rock around it to make completely unoticeable or somthing.

Im thinking this is how I might set it up. Of course all pvc will be hidden by rock.

The only think that worries me is your sump return, remember that your display tank will drain to the lowest point possible so the outlets on that tower scare me a bit. Check valves are not always reliable.

here is the tank I was telling you about, take a look at his closed loop for ideas, he has the intake to the CL coming from the bottom too.

so that pipe in the middle, thats the CL intake? Does the water enter from the top of that pipe? Its capped in the pic? Im just conserned about the amount of suction the intake has, dont want any thing getting sucked in.

Im concerned about syphoning also, but I was thinking if I have the top return on the pipe high enough the water level wont have to drop to much to break the syphon.

yes that is the CL intake, he had not recieved his CL pump yet so he had not taken it off (reason for the cap). On a closed loop there is no syphon so it doesnt matter where or how far below the surface the intake is, just make sure you put valves on everything. If you are worried about the suction, get a larger strainer to diffuse the flow or split it into 2 intakes (most likely not needed)

What would happen if you were to leave the pipe capped, instead swiss cheese the intake pipe so the suction is diffused?
