I say you drill the tank from the bottom for a 2" bulkhead and use the same hole for the overflow/return by putting the return hose through the overflow.
uuhhm, probrably just over tired, but im not following what your saying
This is a killer idea, but i'm not going to try to explain it cause i'm not sure how exactly it works.Originally Posted by iVgOnMaD
you put the hose for the return line going up from the sump through the overflow piping, think "herbie stand pipe" but without a gate valve and w/the return taking place of the secondary overflow.
for the closed loop, try somethink like kamilek did w/his acrylic 150g BTA tank. same thing drilled from the bottom for the intake/ output, he put the outputs on corners of the bottom panel and used an OM.
i understand, but what would be the advantage of doing this
1 hole, no powerheads
I think a backup drain is necessary though. What if the overflow piping gets blocked? It has less of a chance of getting clogged with a pipe inside it, but if it does...
exactly, if you want to skip the closed loop try a high gph pressure pump for your return, paired up w/some Pacific Coast Flow Accelerators, you should be able to get good water movement.Originally Posted by cartman5579
he would have to accept the fact that he would not be able to choke down his overflow w/gate valve, in exchange for a cleaner look. He would have the same risk of blockage as any other regular overflowOriginally Posted by Haeun
wouldnt you need to have an overflow box for that? Cause my tank wont be employing one.
No, have the overflow go directly to the sump. Just make sure the hose is submerged.
not necessarily, you would have a black PVC pipe instead
Where to get black PVC? I was considering spraypainting my PVC with krylon fusion.
