"making" liverock or other inexpensive alternatives

I am planning on upgrading my tank for a 30 to a 60-75 (something in that range) and I have a coupd of question.

I want to have enough live rock but don't want to break the bank. In the past I have put a few coral pieces I found in hawaii in my tank and within 4-6 months they looked indistinguishable from live rock. Is there any specific rock that one can buy for cheap that can become live rock over time, that is reef safe, and will look good.

If anyone is selling base live rock let me know, I might be interested.

Also, heaters, I have 2 heaters made for a 30 gallon tank and am currently only using one. If I go to a 60 tank, can I just use these 2 together or do I need to buy a larger heater.

      Thanks for the advice.

      -Justin

Do a search here on SDReefs, there have been several threads about making your own rocks.
As for the heaters, yes you can use them together to heat the bigger tank. I have heard of some running 2 large heaters on 1 system in case one of them fails.

If you haven't seen it before, GARF has a pretty good section on DIY LR. I think they're a great idea for large to very large tanks but on a smallish tank (around the 60g range), buying LR from someone breaking down their tank would be cheaper and less time consuming in the long run. Wouldn't be as fun though
