      DIY Phosphate reactor

So before I bought my reactors I wanted to try and make one and this is what I came up with. Not the best design, but with some minor improvements it would work well. First improvement I would make would be the tube going into the reactor needs to be rigid (I only had flex tubing at the time). Second would be the size of the barbs and tubing ( I would use 1/2). 3rd would be a larger pump (I used what I had lying around)

It worked when I set it up, but with the suggested improvements it would work much better. Phosphate reactors aren't expensive to begin with, but for those who like to DIY everything, here you go.

The cylinder is a cracker container from Linen n Things ($5) and the sponge is just from a canister filter.

If anyone tries to make one, please post some pics of the final design.

Nice work! You think it would work better w/hard tubing inside the reactor?

Yes just because with the flex tubing it is a pain to get seated right. And you could make the inside part 2 pieces like the TLF design.

      Dude you are the man
This opens up many possibilities for cheap, I have so many ideas running around right now. I'm going to Linen's N Things tomorrow.

1 more thing.... I used Teflon tape on the threads of the container to help seal.

$5 for the containers (it comes in a 2 pack), so $2.50 for the one.

      The barbs are $1.5 each

I had the pump, tubing, extra acrlyic and the sponge.

Took about 20 minutes because I did not have a drill larger enough to drill the top holes and had to do some of it by hand.

I deleted from my photobucket, which breaks the link. If anyone wants them I can email them to you.
