Oh yeah, 700gph is a very modest estimation. With a high flow mod, the MJ1200 can do 1100-1500gph quite easily. I was shocked when I read this estimation when the DIY first became popular. However, after playing around with them for awhile now, I'm convinced it truly is a beast!

Yeah, I used the med flow mod on a 1200. Just ask Justin how one of them tore up his 29 gallon when we put it in there.

this is exactly why we have forums. I'm glad i didn't buy that rio i was thinking of putting on my remora pro. Probably saved me a lot of stress and money in the future.

I had this happen to me also, for weeks I was having problems, then one day I had my head down near the water surface and smelled a burning smell. I pulled out my rio and it was frying the tank. I have ran others for years though w/o problems, I think the key is keeping them real clean, others have posted to just run the sponges on them, best to stay away though in fear of a toasting.

That video was a 1 MJMod. (MaxiJet 1200). Out of the box 295GPH. Mod it and you get 1200+GPH.

That's a modded MJ in there. He's showing how much a modded MJ can truly push.....alot more than their rating

      edit: COKE Justin!

      pump

      ahhh. thats impressive.

      by the way,
im currently using a rio (thanks bro), but i have an empty emergency overflow sump under my table, so if it were to stop working like some ppl said in this post, the carpet would still be dry. we'll see.

right now it's doing quite fine. quiet too

It's not just their reliability that's in question on the Rio pumps. They tend to leak voltage as well and can be frying your tank without you even knowing it. Some have been lucky and used them for years with no incident, but I say better safe than sorry. I only use them for mixing. As was earlier mentioned, friends don't let friends use rios.

that means the impeller is not properly centered i think. the magnetic power has be equal all around. i have the same problem with my whisper filter on my freshwater tank.
