      Rio Pumps

Please be advised they are known to quit working/not restart and kill everything in your tank by electrocution.

Rio pumps hardly seem worth while. I only use them for mixing salt and water changes.

I have rio pump and have both luck and bad luck with them. The bad luck one is the one with regular power cord seem to has alot of problem with quit working, electrocution but the UL list with 3-sponge power cord cost about $7-16 more last a long time,I owned about 6 Rio pump and only have bad luck with one Rio 2100 with regular power cord.

RC is littered with accounts of them nuking tanks. Please don't use them for your tank.

Sorry again to hear your story Jojo, the hammer coral you sold to me few months ago doing good in my tank.
Mantis, the Rio 3100 you bough from my brother is doing fine, remember this:do not shake the pump when it is quit working, you have to take it out of your tank, disassemble it,clean and put them back together, sometime they get dirty and stuck.Last time my Rio died when it quit working,I try to shake it and get shock from electricity,I guess when they stuck they got heat up and when I shake them they broke out.

Rio has had a bad name in the past, but since they have changed all their pumps to be UL-Listed, I have not had one problem with them, neither has any of my servicing accounts. I really like the Hyper Flows, I have a 12HF on my 70 gallon and two 6HF on my 28g Nanocube. I am sure most of the problems are people using old pumps and rehashing old outdated information. An example of this would be the Rio Pumps leak oil into your tank. Maybe ten years ago that was the case but since then they have sealed their pumps just like every other manufacturer. Hydor Pumps also use to have a bad name, but they have also changed. They did have a recall on the Koralia Pumps (2s,3s) when they first came out but have since corrected that also, so if you buy a used Koralia be aware of this.

IMO-Its not worth the risk. It it works-great, if it doesn't-everything is dead. I'd rather buy a maxijet and have peace of mind.

Replaced my UL listed Rio 2500 with two Koralia 4s. Just a water changer now. Nice powerful pump though!

Friends don't let friends buy Rio's!!!
I will never own one, and I can't believe AW sells/recommends them so much.

A MJ1200 with an MJMod is pushing at least 700gph. Absolutely no problem with flow on one of those. I have a Rio600 for topoff and that is all I would do with them. Too hot and heavy for me.
