one should be enough
I'll add to this thread. I've only had mine about a month, and had to send it in for repair. According to EcoTech and IceCap service, it seems the drive shaft swelled. Direct from EcoTech:
"It's made from an engineering grade polymer material and the swelling is just part of its material properties. All plastics will absorb some water, some more than others. This one absorbs very little but when you have such tight tolerances as we have in the pump, this kind of thing can happen (about 1% or less of pumps)"
We'll see how things go from here...I should have it back shortly.
Here's the whole thread, if anyone is interested:

Thats too bad. It least its going to be fixed. Mine has already been to repair once, and lately has been stalling. I have 2 of them, and I only seem to be having problems with one of them.

Ok, I had this issue with the one used Vortech I bought where it slid down to the bottom of my tank (the plastic sticky thing you hang it from obviously came unstuck)...I thought maybe it was due to when I had it cranking as the older one definitely makes more noise (new one is virtually silent). I had emailed Ecotech Marine a while back but never heard anything and when I slowed down the speed I didn't have any issues until yesterday and then again today.
Peter, do you have any pull or contacts that I can actually get a hold of? I thought I would post this on the thread in case anyone has one of the first models before they came out with the wireless controller model.
which contact do you need? I have the number for the repair place.
can you pm me that Eric...thanks!!!
Is it just this number Eric?

I just left a message
Just post a thread in their forum on RC asking where to send it (just in case the place for warranty vs non warranty is different) if you can't get any help with Eric's phone numbers...

wow guess im sticking to tunze. never ever failed on me.
Thanks for the link Peter, I just posted a thread over on RC
I too have had Tunze's and loved them. Are the vortech's really that much better? Considering they are new, they will have their initial flaws. Unfortunately, you all are the testers. If I bought something and it quit after a month, I would be pissed too! Aside from the bulk of a tunze, what make the VorTech's better?
I don't think one is better than another, Vinny. I like the vortech for its size, more than anything.

Just wanted to give an update on the older pump I shipped back to IceCap. They received in on Feb 25th and I got it back yesterday. I didn't see anything noted as to what they did but it looks like they replaced the heavier/magnet with cord side of the pump. If anyone has extra tie straps, I could use one or two for the cords. It was still hanging in the right spot this morning and this one is quiet.
Grrrr....my wet side stuck and separated again Could I really just be this unlucky?
