Center glass brace and extreme heat

So when you put a 400w MH lamp approx. 4 inches directly above the obnoxious glass brace on the top of your tank, it gets really, really, hot. How hot is too hot? I need some light to come from above it, but I don't want to crack it. Anyone have any ideas about how tempramental that glass is? The tank is a Leemar 135g and the top brace is about 12" wide and is 1/2" thick.

I have the same issues with my tank, the braces are really annoying. I have 2 fans bowing in the canopy, One at each brace, it seems to cool them down as well as the temp in the canopy.
