      Tang Battle!!

Well the last wo hours I had to remove almost all my rock except two peices to catch on of my tanks, I introduced a purple tang today adn wow the powder brown didnt like that. Well now the powder brown is ina box in the tank chillin, I re-aquascaped everything, but he is still going to be in there for about 48 hours. The purple has taken a liking to my maroon clown is this okay, shes a big girl, bigger than him.

Hmm....if you leave the powder brown out of the free swimming area of the tank for 48 hours and the purple tang establishes his territory in the new landscaping, you're probably going to have another battle, except in reverse.

That is, unless the purple tang is way smaller than the powder brown? Then you'll probably be fine. But a 90g may be a bit small for these guys to get along no matter what. Hard to say unless you try it.

I had the same problem. Pretty common, but it still sucks. Good luck, Dan and keep us posted!

I'm so helpful, I wrote a "dissertation" on this like a month ago and decided..to search it out for you...anyways here you....I've had four tangs get along, so all my techniques come simply from my experiences...

Aww..the age old debate on fish compability....to be honest with you here, there is no right or wrong answer...

Some situations are no brainers....like trying to have an eel with chromis..or a shark with bottom feeders

Even in those instances I wouldn't say never because they may just get along (although highley unlikely)

Now...to get back to your inquiry...I don't think anyone here can answer definatley as to whether they will "get along" or not...it really all depends on the indivual fish...the range of spectrum of fish varies greatly when it comes to getting along or not getting along..and when it comes to tangs I would probably put them somewhere in between..

Usually everywhere you read, it will say you can't house tangs together..or you have to have a really huge tank if you want to, but this site is full of peoples tanks that have multiple tangs in them...

      Yolo's....hippo and a salfin
Mine....hippo and a purple (sold the purple though)

theres a lot more then that, but thats off the top of my head..as you can see you really all depends on the individual fish...just because yolo's tangs get a long, it doesn't mean I'd expect every Salifin/Hippo to get along..it really is luck of the draw

Here are some steps/precautions you can take to maybe "help" them along in their compatability.

1.Take all the tangs in our tank out for about an hour
      2. Rearrange the rock work within the tank
      3. Reintroduce the tangs back in the tank simultaneously in clear bags or nets (don't release em yet, just so they get use to each other)
      4. After about an hour let em loose and monitor them.
      5. They may square off for about 30-60 mins and its crucial you watch them for the remainder of the day and subsequently the next couple of days
      6. If the continue to square off each time they run into each other..then its probably not going to work, but if they only intially do it, then your in luck...

Good luck with it and I hope it works out for you

I hope so, buddy. They would be a great looking pair of fish just by their colors. It's a tough call.

They're gonna fight regardless, but hopefully, they'll get it out of their system, establish who's dominant, and then just be...well...contentious toward one another.

All you can do is try, you know? Here's hoping it works for you. Keep lots of nori in there for them. Fat tangs fight less 'cause they wobble when they swim!

But....but...we bought front row seats to the fight! Can you go buy a hippo tang now? LOL J/K. Good luck with the Purple Tang, Dan. They're beautiful and have a lot of personality.

      Yellow+blue for me=NO GOOD!

Did you have the blue in before the yellow? Or did you just add them at the same time? Or did you have a tiny yellow and add a giant blue?

Those are the only ways i see it working out for you^

I had a yellow and added the blue that was wrong!

Big yellow -3 inches, added a smaller blue 1.5 inches, so far, the big yellow is pretty much not interested at all in the blue. I like it that way! Both are eating well too.... even sharing the Nori feeding station. Just luck I guess!
The Tang Whisperer is right..... depends on the fish!
