What makes the AC Jr. stand out more than the RK2? I'm still kind of new to the whole "controller" stuff and from what I've read the RK2 has good/overall functionality and design; is the AC Jr. "better" than the RK2? How?

The ACJr has some advantages on the RK2 to the best of my knowledge (that may have changed):

      From Aquanotes:
-Alarm notification via email, pager, or shell command of tank error conditions.
-Remote access to the AquaController via a modem or TCP/IP connection.
      -Programming Language

From the various threads on RC about this topic, the consensus is usually that people that own the RK2 LOVE the RK2, while people that own the AC Jr. LOVE the AC Jr.

Some things to consider. I have the Jr. I really don't care about the moon cycles and stuff it can do, or daylight cycles. I do wish, however, I had bought the AC III so I could have 2 pH meters (tank/ca reac. effluent), and an ORP meter. Also, the computer connection would have been nice. It's tough to sometimes imagine what one will want/need in the future...

Premium Aquatics has some sort of controller as well, but I don't know opinions on it.

IMO, I think the aquacontroller III is the best option because it can show you your current tank conditions through the net. The ability to look at your conditions while you are away from home is great.

The other aquacontrollers cant do this. The drawback here is that the ACIII will set you back about $600 bucks.

The ACJr with serial cable connection can do this by connecting it to a computer with Aquanotes + Internet. If a computer is not near by, you can modify the serial connection to connect to a router. The ACIII is nice if you need a dedicated webserver (unsecure) and ethernet connection but with a little knowhow, the ACJr can accomplish the same tasks.

I believe the discount is around $50.00 off the base unit (ACJr + backlight). With every 8 additional buyers, they can knock off $10.00. I'm in on this groupbuy so if anyone on here is interested, we can split the s/h charges to SD.

I was unaware of this, if you can connect it to your wireless router then thats a good reason to buy the ACJr.

So, if I have the ACJr. connected to the router or serial I can check my parameters through the net at any place?

Yes, but your ACJr must have the serial port/serial data cable and the connected computer must have the Aquanotes software. The wireless router connection is not a "supported" method by the Neptune guys but there's a guide on RC on getting that done, all you need is a router and a special serial cable.

An ACJr to PC Serial Cable is around $16. If you need to have ethernet connectivity, then the serial->ethernet cable is ~$60-70 if you already have a router.
