it is a 20 gal tank so the glass is not thick. i would like to do a 1" drain and a 1" return. would this be good for this size of a tank?

Should be fine, if you need to go smaller for some reason the drilled hole is the same for a 3/4" and a 1" bulkhead.

I am going to loan my 1 3/4" bit to robert for a couple of days as soon as i get it back i can help you out. i don't have a bit for the 1/2" bulkheads so i may need to order one if you really want that size. Darrin

thanks man, i don't have to go down to the 1/2". do you think if i did one 1" drain and 2 3/4" returns it would still be ok. i am trying to get the most water movement in my tank so that i don't have to use a powerhead. since it is a small tank i want to save as much space as possible.
