      Film in sump

Can anyone tell me why there’s a layer of film on top of the surface water in my sump? Is this due to lack of flow?

Is the water level reaching the overflow?

      That’s protein.
      You need a protein skimmer.

What fish do you have? Your bio load might not be enough for that skimmer. The skimmer should remove most if not all of the protein so either the skimmer isn’t functioning properly or there isn’t adequate flow in your sump.

I'm gonna say it's flow in sump from what I'm seeing, water stagnation because your water is exiting your weir to the next chamber but only at a low rate, imagine soap left over in the sink but the water is draining still. Your skimmer will take care of it if you put a small powerhead there.

I agree with Chris. Not enough flow. A small pump or wave maker will do the job.
