This whole thing would more like an experiment in humanity I guess. There's a fine line between being naive and being trusting. The only way to see if this system will work is to try it. I'm sure they'll be newbies hording "free" corals but hopefully, the person fragging the coral for these newbie can make some common sense judgement.

The idea of a blacklist of some sort is good.... ie.. for people getting free corals and selling it for profit.

I think I'll add a small section to my site to try this experiment.

Danny, it's a good idea, however, the variables are many; nice corals do initailly cost nice bucks which would require individuals to do the same; then there's the credibility issue. In essence, it's an elite group of reefers. An individual with predominantly soft corals, zoos, leathers, gsp's etc. will have to upgrade or maybe limited. If these concerns are thoroughly addressed, I'm all for it. Nothing personal, just being fair and real.

      Well Heck,

Ive been giving away $$$ of free corals away anyway in hopes that it helps other newbies. Deal me in. I mean count me in!

I have about $200 of LTA and LSP corals I was going to post but if we start now Ill commit them to the cause. I might even throw in an acan...

      Phil

      lol
see it could be like this!

i mean we should ask moore to get the profile option to have more "in-depth"info on our tanks like how long its been up whats in it what lights what filters
to make sure the persons tank is up for it!

Maybe we should have a minium SDREEFS post count like 25-50 posts to ensure we have a new clan member...not just a poacher, wait thats my name...

Nice Phil! I'll try to come up with system quickly and we can do a try run. Of course, the corals we provide has to be relatively fast growing and frag-able. So corals like blastos, clams, bubble corals, etc.. are out of the question.

Credibility will work itself out I think. Everyone is well connected via forums and bulletin boards and words do travel fast on the Internet. I would hate for this to turn into a "elite" club for "elite" corals.

Again, the concept is to get aquaculture corals to reefers. Basically, everyone who joins is now part of a community aquaculture farm. Aquaculture corals cost a lot of money to grow... why not grow them in people's tank? There they serve two purposea... first they are enjoyed by the reefer and once grown to the right size they can be given back to the community.

Individual with a predominately soft coral/LPS tank will be more interested soft coral and LPS. When they are ready to move on to SPS, they can past on their PIF softies to other newbies.

The question of money should not be an issue here. There should be no membership fee or required coral donation. All coral donation will be just that... a donation. Nothing should be expect in return. This is not a barter system...

The question of fairness should be address though and you've brought up a good point. It's been suggested that we have a point system of some sort for priorities on coral waiting list. Any ideas here will be welcomed.

Again, I KNOW there'll be newbies trying to take advantage of this. Perhaps we can limit the number of corals an individual can have during a certain period of time.

Acans are fast grower. Blastos are EXTREMELY slow... This is from my personal experience and from talking to other reefers. They are definitely fraggable though.
