      Feeding a Powder Blue Tang

I am feeding him Nori off of a clip and he loves it . I am putting 4 pieces a day on the clip and he finishes it in 5 minutes,. But if I feel like if I were to put 8 pieces a day on the clip he would eat that too and not be satisfied. He is 6" long, and good and thick. Any thoughts if I am feeding him enough?

      Thanks

      Tim

The answer to that is different depending on what your tank can take. Ultimately the answer is to feed him as much as you want/can without getting your phosphate and nitrates too high. Depending on how established your tank is and how much you filter out that answer is different. He’ll eat as much as you give him (regardless of how full he is ) if he’s good & thick & heathy then he’s eating enough.

      Powder Blue Tang

As far as nutrient build up goes he eats about 95% of the norm I put on the clip, so I am not that worried about build up, thanks for sharing your opinion.

That’s probably true for phosphate but what about nitrate? Does he poop in the tank? Guessing more algae means more poop.

Well my Tang has expanded his pallet. I have recently introduced my own concoction of fish/coral food to the mix. He has slowly taken to the new food. So much so that the last piece of nori that I placed on the clip has basically been ignored. It has never lasted more than 5 mins before being consumed in its entirety. Today for the first time he was satisfied with my concoction so much so that he has left the nori untouched. This is the first time I have witnessed this behavior, but a mixed diet has to be better than just eating the same thing over and over again. I'll keep ya'll posted with any further developments.
