      Ha! They’ve been busier

Had a small mishap this week thinking they were old enough to handle the aio’s native filtration…nope… couldn’t turn the flow down low enough. I had sponges to “block” the overflow but they didn’t work; turned out to be a mess. Lost a few soldiers but we’re still winning the war. Ordered a low flow hob filter to see if that’s better.

They love corners! (If anyone has any tips..lmk)

Just over 1mo. Added some filtration, live rock & water movement & started TDO B2. They recognize me as a food source (beyond a shadow of a doubt). Most have started to migrate to 1 large group (school?) while there are a couple smaller sects of outliers.

Bottom left is a good rep of mom, top right “dad” & the other 2 are a good mix.

Just combined batch 1 & 2 in the growout tank. Was a little nervous that the new guys would get beat up but they coexist nicely. Here’s some tips I’ve learned.

      1. When you’re water changing the fry tank, odds are good you will siphon some fry. make sure to siphon to a light colored bucket to make spotting fry easier. smaller glass clear beakers (250ml) scoop them up nicely, it’s not too tough to grab them and it’s less of a problem after the first week.

      2. TDO A almost makes it so you don’t need rotifers. I haven’t fully tested this yet but my last batch I seeded the fry tank 3 days before hatch, gave it some air and let the rotis populate there. I also started feeding TDOA on day1 & did not add rotifers. All transitioned to TDO before the rotifer population was decimated. This means it may not be necessary to maintain a rotifer culture (huge time saver)

      3. TDO A is expensive. It’s almost 3x the cost of the medium sized pellets of the same food. IM makes a grinder that takes larger pellets down to a similar size just with not as much consistency. If you grind it thru twice it is closer to A size and can save money.
