Price hikes in LFS throughout SD???

I haven't been to local fish stores in months (feb or March maybe before pandemic)

Finally went to one last night and saw an average or 30-40% price hikes in fish

Is that the consensus throughout San Diego LFS right now?
Fair to say price hikes caused by pandemic??

No Sean, it’s more of a case of shop owners passing the cost of the pandemic on to the end consumer.
      Wake up!

It is 100% the shipping cost.
I get stuff direct from indo and wholesalers. Shipping cost has tripled due to lack of commercial flights to put cargo on. That then gets popped into the wholesale cost of fish too. They have increased.
I got one box of fish(11 fish) from Hawaii A month ago and it was $110 just in shipping.

Chris at Vets Pets said the same things... less flights and far less fish and corals as well so the selection has sucked. It took me weeks to get a healthy blenny.

So it is bec of pandemic. Shipping cost go up, LFS cost goes up we then pay for the additional cost caused by the pandemic.

Make sense for business trying to keep inventory to stay a float. I just hope once the pandemic is over cost will drop back down and they don't decide to keep the prices were it is bec people were willing to shell out the few extra bucks.

Shipping costs? Maybe I’m confused. I used to see yellow tangs for like $30-40. Now they are like $100. So it’s costing $60-70 more to ship a single fish? Doesn’t sound logical to me. What seems more likely to me is that the fish stores might be having to pay a bit more for each fish (less available fish or less available flights? Kind of irrelevant either way as we have no way of controlling it), but they have maintained their standard markup percentages. Therefore the costs we see have not just gone up by how much more the shipping costs, but even more because the fish stores aren’t just charging the increased price of the shipping that they are being charged, but instead they are just marking up by a standard percentage as usual. Maybe someone else can explain if this is incorrect
