      Tangs & Romaine

I just got back from Pet Kingdom and I saw a seaweed package and it had a no romaine (romaine with a circle and line through it) on the packaging.

I have been feeding my blue tang romaine is that bad?

Not sure if it's bad or not, but I'm pretty sure that it carries very little nutritional value.

No worries about lettuce. I've fed tangs bananas before as well, they love it. It keeps them regular.

Romaine isn't very nutritious and if you can you should try to feed nori or Gracilaria if you want to help keep your fish healthy. Think about it....do you ever see fish eating romaine in the ocean?

The theory goes that they can get addicted to the romain and as stated it has little nutrition. It's malarchy in my opinion, but so is cargeing inflated prices for plain old dried "Nori" that you can get at any asian market for cheap. Just go for the "Dried" not Toasted-It should say Pure Nori(sushi). This is better than romain but romain is fine in the mix. IMO.

I have some lettuce macro algae in my sump. I don't have any tangs (or fish for that matter), but I plan to feed them with it once I get a tang. This algae looks like lettuce but from a marine environment. I have some extra if someone wants some.

Lettues might be okay for short term but seaweed is probably better. For seaweed, go to Ranch 99 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I buy packs of it for 1.89 with 5 or 6 huge sheets. They use it for sushi. I buy a lot of my food for my fish there.
