      UV Clarifiers

I have a 5W UV Clarifier I'm going to use on my 55G setup.. I was reading that its good for upto 100G's.. Will this is my reef tank so I was told by a few people it will kill all the bacteria in my tank even the good stuff.. Shouls I put it running into my main tank or into the sump? Is this going to kill my pods?? How long should I run it a day?? BTW I have 2 tangs and 1 is showing sighs of Ick so this is why I'm going to set it up..

I've heard the UV are good as long as you have the right one for your particular tank.

I never believed in this. This isn't the open ocean. We dont have plankton floating around our tanks. Even if we did, it would only be able to kill what passes through the light. I have a buddy with one on his 24 cube. I beleive its the 5 watter. I'd like to hear your results.

I'm only worried about the only place to hook it up would be in my sump.. It would have to go in my fuge so I think it would kill off my macro.. Another question would it kill the ick in the tank the same if I put it in the main tank or the sump??

A friend of mine had 24 watt in his new 40 gallon tank when he set it up. It kept his water crystal clear and clean from algae forming on the glass. Three months later it leaked, so he removed it and man with in 3 days brownish/purple algae bloomed. It was like the tank was starting to cycle.

Interesting. I also read that the livestock in a tank with UV filter acquired some sort of "immune deficiency syndrome". So for some reason your UV stops working, you can face some health problems in the tank. I think this was my primary reason to not use UV.
