      Moving to Virginia

Greetings. I am doing a last minute military move to Virginia. I need advice!

I have a 45 gallon tank with a 15 gallon sump, protein skimmer, appropriate weight in rock, and a good sand bed.

How do I move all of this the most appropriate way? Do I try to keep the rock alive and under water? Same with sand? Do I dry it all out and restart?

If you have long distance moving recommendations, I am all ears.

      Thanks.

Personally since it’s a cross country move I’d just sell that rock and sand here take the tank and restart fresh when you settle in over there. But if you really want to keep that rock and sand, I’d let it dry out. That way there’s no worry or rush to reset up the tank when you get there.

Totally agreed. I’d just plan on a total reset. Maybe consider selling the tank. There’s enough to stress about when you’re moving. I’d only keep the rock if it’s something special that would be hard to replace.

True, That may be easier, unless you have a good spot in whatever your transporting your stuff in, I’d build some sort of 2x4, plywood crate to protect the tank, if you decide to take it with you.
