Exclamation Tank crashed - restarting: SPS, LPS, Fish

      Hi all,

As the title unfortunately says, my tank crashed. Nearly all my coral did not survive. Parameters are now much better, so time to restart stocking it.

Over the years [I've been on SDReefs since its inception] I've given and/or sold to many aquarists here quite a few frags at extremely reasonable prices [read: cheap].

I'm hoping that some of you that I've been kind to may return a favor.

      Thanks!

Damn, that sucks! I’ll donate some SPS frags. What happened?

Thanks - I'll take you up on your generous offer.

Not 100% sure but ... I use a peristaltic pump for continuous water change, seems like I was expelling more tank water than putting in, then the auto top-off kicked in [me not noticing] and the salinity level dropped quite a bit, I tried putting in salt mix [directly into the sump - which probably shocked and did more damage still], then red slime algae bloomed and chocked pretty much all my prized coral and then some.
To fix this, I did more water changes, stopped the top-off to increase salinity, reduced lighting, added carbon and GFO and an algae turf scrubber. Slowly, the salinity rose and the red slime subsided dramatically. I have very few surviving coral, so it's a forced opportunity to re-start.

Again, those who got coral frags from me over the years know that they always got a great deal [especially when I found out the fellow was in the armed forces - they generally got a 100% discount = free].
