Is it bad to have an airstone inside of a reef tank?
I haven't ever seen a reef tank with air inside the display. I was wondering if its bad for the tank.
I'm thinking about adding bubbles into my 60 gallon reef.

Why is it bad? There are bubbles in my protien skimmer...
I'm talking about the big bubbles, not the microbubbles you see in a protien skimmer or when your sump is running dry.
Why do you want bubbles in your main display? They are going to cause salt spray and creep.

My tank is not open top, i have a piece of glass over it so i won't have to worry about salt spray. I have the salt creep eliminator rubbed onto the rim of my tank so i don't get salt creep every often. I want bubbles because they look nice and they are fun.
Fun Indeed!!!I want bubbles because they look nice and they are fun.
There's no real problem with it, in fact many of us have air stones as backup in case the power goes out. It's just that in most cases you want to have the water as invisible as possible, and bubbles make water clearly evident.
Also, most sponges cannot tolerate air, and a few rare fish (puffers, I think),
can't get it out either, so consider that when you place the airstone, or whatever.
Air is cool- just go for large bubbles so they don't stick around in the water colum.
