      UV question

I was wondering something. I have a 45g right now that’s having some algae issues and wanted to put a UC sterilizer in it but I’m gonna hopefully be setting up a 18g in the next couple months. If I get a UV that’s big enough for the 180 and set it up on the 46 for now will that hurt anything? I know it’s overkill but I don’t want to spend the money on a small one and not be able to use it on the 180

Won’t hurt anything; may have a noticeable affect the water temp. You can increase the flow thru the unit if you’re concerned about too much contact time. I personally like oversized uv sterilizers.

How will it affect the temp? Warmer?

yes. The light will heat the water as it passes thru. With a larger light on a lower total water system, it might push your temp higher than when you have it on 180.
