      Temperature Question

I know I will be judged, but I need opinions and experienced feedback.

My family fights over the thermostat. Everyone but me prefers the house to be at 78 degrees. I have a new tank finishing up it’s first full cycle, and the temperature is right around 80.6 degrees by the end of the day.

The house cools off at night...ambient temperature approximately 76 degrees. Tank is usually 78 to 78.5 in the AM.

Is the house temp too high for the tank? Is 80.6 too hot for the fish and inverts? Is a 2+ degree change every 24 hours stressing the fish/inverts?

      Appreciate any feedback.

      One other point...

I have an eflux return pump from a 10 gallon sump. A PLS-100 protein skimmer. Eheim heater...it is never on!

Could the hardware be heating up the water?

80 is fine. I think up to 82 is okay. But at 84 in my experience is where things start to go downhill. And also I heard in the ocean it’s normal for the temperature to go down by a few degrees over night. Also you can use evaporative cooling with a fan blowing above the water to lower the temp by a few degrees.

That was what I was seeing too. Evaporative is a good idea.

If a two degree temp swing isn’t too bad, then that is good news for those cold blooded family members of mine

That swing isn’t too bad my tank will usually get up to 80 as well during summer. Aiming some fans at the waters surface helps bring the temp down enough for me to not worry about it too much. And on the really hot days floating frozen water bottles helps too!

You're fine as is, but to answer your question about gear it is why I always make sure to keep watts down, watts equal heat, but I'm not sure how much that will keep swing down w/ ambient temps. Tank volume is a factor, larger volume, less swing, but 2 degrees is no big deal.
