      Acrylic Shield

Is it bad to not put the acrylic shield on t5 fixture? The way I'll be hanging my lights would require me to take down the whole fixture to change bulbs if I leave it on. Thinking it will be 10-12" above water in tank.

      Acrylic Shield

Depending on the fixture it could affect the cooling of the bulbs, and the shield helps protect from salt

I would recommend leaving the shield on. ATI has said it designed those fixtures to draw in air through the gap above the shield to tunnel air down the bulbs. It may also void warranty if so.

True. I would leave it on. It has an opening at the end where air blows through the fixture and out one side. Mine is up against the wall so I have to remove the whole thing to change bulbs. 24” fixture is ok for 1 person. Yours might be a bigger pain!
Maybe you can drill a hole on one side so you can slide it out 1” and then bend it to take it off instead of sliding it out the side of the fixture.

The hole is to get a good grip on the shield.

I would have room to remove the shield if I turned the fixture around but then the control disply is not accessible. Will leave it on. Not terrible to bring it down once a year to change bulbs. Thanks for input.

I have the same issue as you. I emailed ATI and asked if you could switch the end caps so that the splash sheild could be slid out from the other side. They gave me a run down of how the way the fans, end caps, and splash sheild all work in the cooling of the fixture. I will be taking mine down once a year to replace bulbs also.
