      RODI Filtration stages???

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing good.
With all the craziness going on and I being in the process of building a larger reef tank, I am planning on getting a BRS rodi setup.

Anyone have any suggestions on how many stages of filtration I need for San Diego water?

Their 5 stage is the most common supposedly

So I just bought a BRS system. Spent a lot of time on the phone with them. It hey went over SD’s water testing report with me.
You’ll need at minimum their 5 stage system. That’s sediment, two universal carbon blocks, RO membrane and a DI canister.

I’d subset getting the system that comes with the back flush, pressure gage and TDS monitor as well as ordering chlorine test strips the double strips so can watch for chloramine break through. SD eater has very near the allowable limit of chloramine and very high TDS. It’s really kinda nasty actually.

This is the system I got pluse I added a second DI canister. With the second DI you should never see anything over 0 TDS. and you won’t waste reson

filter + carbon + membrane is all you really need and I wouldn’t bother with DI resins IMO. If I wanted to add extra, it would probably be another carbon. I’ve kept everything from zoas to acros with the most basic RO setup and have never had algae issues due to my topoff water. The need for zero tds is probably a holdover from the ULNS days.

+1 for 2 carbon filters- one rated for chloramines or “universal”

I purchased their 6 stage 150G per day water saver deluxe plus. Couldn't be happier.

6 stage here as well. Make water fast as well with the 1.5:1 waste ratio

6 stage here. May want to consider a booster pump is your water pressure isn’t good (under 70). My water pressure was 50 and my production rate was terrible. Also lower pressure will wear out filters faster. My pressure with the booster is 75 and production has increased dramatically

No less than 5 for San Diego, your mileage may vary.

To clarify- I don’t know that you want to drink RODI water... RO water for sure but DI may make it too pure and remove some of the good minerals. Typically a system built for drinking stops after the RO membrane.

I originally bought the 4 stage from brs, and didn’t like how quickly the filters exhausted. Upgraded to the 6 stage soon after, and it works great for sd county water. Love it

I've had previous systems plumbed up with a t fitting after the membrane and before the di so I could fill up 5 gal water jugs for house drinking water. Worked great.
Current system is not plumbed this way due to use of pressure switches and booster pump. Currently looking at auto flush kits for a mixing station build to help reduce tds creep between the system turning on and off on it's own randomly to keep containers topped off
Here is my 6 stage. Actually just upgrade to this from my 4 stage spectrapure 90gpd. So far I most happy about the reduced waste water and increased water production. Triple inline tds meter is pretty awesome as well

Oh definitely can use the same system for both for sure (T-ing off before the DI)- personally I don’t buy in to separating cation & anion because you just end up buying the same amount of just one of them than if you buy a DI mix that has the correct ratio. It’s cool to do so you can determine what the ratio is but then I’d just mix my own DI in one container.

As an added note: I’m at about 1:1 on waste on a 180gpd system using a buddy pump and plumbing the waste from one membrane into a second membrane

Thanks for all the great input guys!
Ended up going with the BRS 6-stage.
Good luck to everyone out there in these crazy times
