My main point is the rationale behind it. Is it worth it for most people to go with the craziest light they can buy considering they’ll probably upgrade a few years later or leave the hobby out of frustration anyways? I’d say for most people, no. But if you’re at the point where a G5 is going to be a noticeably better light than a G4, then you’re certainly in the extreme minority among reefers and already have things figured out, including what you need, what you don’t and whether or not you want to play the game long term. To reuse an analogy, Ferraris aren’t for beginners and if you buy one, odds are you’re either rich and want the status symbol or you drive them as intended at the track. I can’t see someone just starting off, buying a G5 and doing any better than they would with a cheaper light or even really appreciating the differences between them. There are no guarantees in this hobby no matter how good the equipment is. I’d hate to be the person who spends 5k on their setup only to realize just how hard this hobby can be and decide to get out of it within two years only to take a massive loss.
