      Yellow Tang ?'s

      I have a 50gallon cube and was wanting to get a yellow tang for it. I have two reasons 1. I like the fish and think they are a beautiful addition to a tank. 2. I have a hair algae problem that I think it could help with from what I have read.

      I was hoping I could get some opinions from y'all regarding;
      1) Care (feeding, do they just eat hair algae)
      2) How to pick one out (have heard very delicate until established)
      3) Is 50 gallons to small?

      Thanks

      50 should hold him for a year or less. Be ready to upgrade. They are hardy as long as you keep it fat and keep the water clean. Buy one that eats and you should be good. In my experience they are very resistant to ick (my other fish got ick and he didnt). It will eat all your hair algae and even chaeto somtimes. Good luck

      1. Yes.. they are great algae grazers
      2. Yellow tanks are pretty hardy... as with most fish, find one that is fat, no physically parasite, swims probably, and will eat fish food.
      3. yellow tanks get pretty big and they grow pretty fast. If you have a lot of LR, I would recomment against it... but if you have lots of room for them to swim, you should be okay. Keep in mind that the tang will out grow your tank.

      If you just want to get rid of hair algae, consider getting more hermits. They do a great job...

      Thanks!

      I really don't want it to outgrow the tank that fast so I will skip this addition. I just really like the way they complement the reef.

      As for the algae I was just hoping I could take care of it and get a fish I wanted. I guess it's more hermits for now. Need to get the algae under control before anything else goes in.

      Thanks again.
