LTB media reactors and uv sterilizer

      Hello,

I want to run a uv sterilizer. I’m open to hearing reasons not to run one and reasons why I should.

In the mean time, who has them available for a 150 gal tank?

I run one. Originally purchased for ich mgt, works good for that and also who knows how many algae blooms it helped avert. Makes water really nice and clear too. Usually they’re sized either for algae or (slower) for parasites. If you get a lg one it’ll have enough contact time with enough turnover to help manage both parasites and algae. Main arguments I’ve heard against them are that it does nothing to help and that it kills good bacteria- It kills all good/bad bacteria that makes its way thru the vessel- the counter argument is that the good bacteria needed for nitrites/nitrates are not typically in the water column. fwiw, I won’t run a tank without one. Main thing is to dial the flow in to the mfctr setting and get the biggest one you can (I run a 200w on a 300ish)

I’m in agreement with you for many of the same reasons. Sounds like it will be a good idea then

If you are looking for a media, check out the Avast Spyglass reactor, you do not need to run filter floss of a sponge so they do not prematurely clog up. I have the small DIY model, I have not built yet hopefully this weekend.
Aquatic Warehouse sells Aqua UV or you could call them in Temecula and see if you can the 20% off like they had at RAP, PM me for details.

I was checking out the Aqua UV at AW and Pat was giving me all sorts of reasons not to run one 🤣 he was talking about how a reef tank is not a fish tank and I don’t want to kill the beneficial bacteria in the water column.
I could have sworn that beneficial bacteria live on the sand and rocks 🤔 and I thought that natural Reef’s have fish in them 🤦🏽😂

There are lots of opinions in this hobby. A cresent wrenchis a great tool but not a good hammer, sometimes. Do your research, BRS loves them or at least loves to sell them. I personally have three units.
