      Weight thoughts in apartment

Have two tanks in my 1 bedroom apartment on the second floor at La Jolla Crossroads apartments, not technically allowed to have a tank bigger than 5g .

I have been running a Nuvo 25g EXT and a 30g long EXT in the living room and bedroom for about a year, no problems....

I would like to consolidate and have a 50g-80g tank though.... Hmmm I wonder if this fancy complex that is of recent construction have floors that can support that much weight?

You should be good for at least a 180g, no problems at all, weight-wise.

Think your apartment can handle a fridge in such a small footprint. Or kitchen countertops and cabinets? I’d say your safe.
Your inability to comprehend just cracks me up!
Tanks are all gone. House never sounded so quiet. It's kind of a spooky kind of quiet. Pretty sweet though.

I would talk to the structural engineer of that place...a 27 cubic fridge double door is about 350+ but that is in the kitchen built fir it...80gallon is about 668 lbs...Joist spacing might be different in the living room.

With the height of the building, that would be a governing factor of floor joist size. Average first floor, floor joists are 2x8 with a 16”center to center span. Different floor joist have different weight loads. Here is a calculator to give you an idea as to how much weight is allowed per square inch. Just punch in your numbers. Start with 2x8 or 2x10. Any other information can be easily referenced with the California Building Code book. CBC. Having the books on hand makes it easier for me to reference but google will be good enough for you to get a rough idea. Given that CBC incorporates seismic code, you can rest assured that your 80g tank is the least of your worries. An overflowing tank would be scarier if you wanna keep your fish on the DL with your property mgmt.

I’m in an apartment that is similar in structure. I am currently running a 5ft 100gal with a 30 gallon sump. My stand is solid wood. I haven’t had any weight issues. I am on the second floor. No issues at all. Been up and running for almost 2 years.

      Easily doable
There's a fine line between owning your tank, and having your tank own you!_________________________________________

Hmmm trying to decide now between a Cadlights 70g Artisan, or a Nuvo EXT 50g or 75g.
