try this... use a clear large measuring cup or similar. put your food in there and let the fish see. immerse the cup letting the food slowly drift out by tilting it side ways. do that for a few days and see if the damsel is brave enough to charge in for food on the bottom of the cup. if it does, let it get comfortable for another day or two.. then next time he's in there, quickly tilt the cup right side up. game over.

      Fish trap

I use a pane of clear acrylic the width of the tank to make a false wall a few inches from the edge of the tank and with no rocks in the area aside from the now bigger part of the tank as you’ll need to prop the panel up to keep it vertical. I set the pane down into the sand twisted slightly so there’s a 1” gap between the front & back panels and the acrylic. I’ll then feed the tank from the spot created by the acrylic panel and the end of the tank for a few days. A smart damsel should catch on to this and spend more time in that space especially around feeding time. When the time is right, I slowly twist the panel back to 90 degrees of the front and back which closes the end gaps and traps the damsel, making it really easy to net the little punk. I’ve done this about a dozen times with these guys, wrasses, etc.
