      Hammer Coral Issues. Please Help!!

I got a nice one head hammer coral from my LFS two days ago. It still had not fully opened up. It looked great in the store. I moved it around a bit and it never opened up. I have it in the lower part of the tank and it is getting low flow. I'm not sure why its having issues. Please help if you can.

      Parameters⬇️
      Temperature: 75F
      Ph: 8.1
      Ammonia: 0
      Nitrite: 0
      Nitrate: 0
      Phosphate: 0.25
      Salinity: 1.024
      Alkalinity: 8.7
      Calcium: 460
      Magnesium: 1500

I use an API test kit for Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, and Phosphate
I use a Red Sea test kit for Alk, Cal, and Mag

Temp seems a tad low & your big 3 a tad hot- I don’t think any of it is too out of whack but it’s probably different than the hammer came from- it doesn’t look pulled in, just not extended so it may just be acclimating? Or, maybe the urchin is messing with it?

I have a blasto, acans, zoas, a toadstool, some mushrooms, and some other softies. All of the other corals are doing great. That's why I'm confused.

Some corals (softies especially) put off chemicals into the water as a defense mechanism “chemical warefare”; maybe try running carbon (if you’re not already). Other possibility is light- it may be that where you got it from didn’t expose it to as much light. Euphyllia are a fickle bunch.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems to me that it may be a new tank? If so maybe the acclimation process was done too fast? And stressed the coral out? Or the tank is going through some swings

I had a similar issue, and it was my lights. I moved it into a shaded area for 2 weeks and finally started opening up

Just wanted to update on this. It is open more and it opens more every day. I think leaving it be and letting it get used to the tank is key. (Sorry for the bad pictures!)

I would change your tank parameters a bit:

Temperature: keep it higher at 77 or 78

Nitrate: 0 is too low, your corals will starve. I run mine at 10, but keep it at about 5 if you want to run it lower.

Mg: 1500 seems high to me. I would keep it below 1400
