Post Mangrove in media compartment of mechanical filter? Yay or Nay?

Definitely want to promote growth in another area other than the main display. with a small PICO tank (3g) there isn't much room but for improvising. Thoughts on a single Mangrove seedling in the Media compartment of a mechanical filter? Also taking suggestions for another type of plant. -Tony

You mean like an hob filter? It'd work great, they just need good light. I found they do much better in actual sand or mud compared to free floating. Their growth is slow enough that they're not great away removing nutrients, however. Other macros would be better in that regard. Chaeto, c. prolifera, c. brachypus would be my first choices if nutrient export is your main goal.

Thinking of doing this actually. I just have to find some free Chaeto. He uses an Aquaclear to create a custom refugium.

Ended up buying TYDY's HOB Refugium and it looks amazing! I'm loving it over a customized Aquaclear.
