Who has a tank with both a hippo blue tang and a powder blue tank?

I currently have a small powder blue tang but 2 days ago I added a smaller blue hippo tang and my powder blue tang chased it until the hippo has to hide in the rock. I was able to take the small hippo out.

However, I just bought a medium size blue hippo and want to have a second try. Do you think that a bigger size hippo that is larger than the powder blue get go inside the tank? My tank is 75 Gallon but it has hiding spots.

How should I add this hippo tang?

I have several clients that have both Blue and Powder Blue with no specific issues.

The Powder is more likely to be territorial - especially if it is the original fish in the tank.

The ideal method to introduce would be to use a fish box / acclimation box... a clear acrylic box with holes. You put the new fish in the box for around a week... the existing fish get to see the new guy and slowly get accustomed to it being there but aren't able to physically interact (aka attack) it.

Try putting a mirror on the side of the tank. It'll help with aggression

Mirror trick works well, the bigger size should help but PBs are notoriously bullies with long memories. One thing I’ll add when doing the mirror trick is that it’s stressful to all the fish so be mindful of the tank while it’s up and give it a break on occasion. the idea with the mirror is to deflect aggression while your new tang figures out the lay of the land and develops escape paths and whatnot- at some point, when you take down the mirror, they will need to hammer out the hierarchy so expect some torn fins, it’s the ocd you need to watch for. I highly recommend an acclimation box- feed more if you can- a full tang is a less concerned tang. As an added note- I don’t like putting nori in the tank during the process bc it seems to fuel aggression & territorial behavior.

I just added a sailfin and a hippo tang on top of a fairly aggressive yellow. Easiest introduction to date. I think mainly due to the fact that both the sailfin and the hippo were a bit larger than the yellow. But...
** I added them with the lights out
** Fed heavily before and after
** Nori tip probably a good one as that did seem to increase aggression.
** I didn't do the mirror trick, mainly because it ended up being unneccessary
** I have lots of hidding spaces for fish too...which I think helps a lot.

      Good luck

O.K. ... today is the day to add the new hippo tang. Wish me luck.

Oh, hopefully I can find the the acclimation box at aquatic warehouse or AquaSD, or even Petco. Otherwise, I have to DIY with egg crates.

. A nice pro tip that originated from Mike @ PK is to use a hamster ball- works great and puts them on the bottom in the thick of things.

Can the fish be fed in the hamster ball?

Thru the holes w/baster- you could drill a larger one. Also put nori in there with em
