I’m just wondering if that’s a bad idea or not. I’ve got extra and can’t keep it in my tank.

I wouldn’t, it may leech nutrients into the water id think, I have some spare rock in a 5 gallon bucket with saltwater, I change the water out every now and then.

+1 on not...if you don't have room for extra rock in the sump then just get a storage container from home depot (hdpe or recycle#2) and throw a pump in there with some water from your next water change
I wouldn’t. The new water doesn’t have anything in there for the rock to stay Alive, unless you feed the water. But then you’re adding food waste and nitrates to water that’s supposed to help remove junk from your tank during Water change.
Put the spare rock in your sump if you have one
Thanx all for the answer. Yes I did, but my sump is full. I’ll figure out how much I have and gift it to a new tank. I got a great deal and I hate like the idea of selling it off to for profit.
