Bowser Colony Hosted By Clown Ticked Off Out Of The Blue!

Hey just thought I'd throw this out to the sharks up in here. My male Da Vinci clown has been hosting this Bowser colony for about the past six months. But today it's been closed up since this morning. Do you think that my female might have laid eggs in there? It's been like this all day pretty much and I saw the wrasses picking at it earlier. None of my other zoas are closed and are all behaving normally. All I can think is that she laid eggs and it irritated the colony either from the egg laying or from the wrasses picking them out and feasting on them. It's kind of a bummer because this colony has been handling the whole hosting thing like a champ and then all of a sudden this happens. Any thoughts? I'd love some input from all you clown enthusiasts out there. Thanks in advance.

Jonas, if she just laid eggs you should be able to see them pretty well, they are crazy bright orange right after being laid. Also most of the time when clowns lay eggs before hand they clean the nesting area which makes me think that if they did you would see chunks or even polyps missing.

Thanks Jason. I don't know man, the wrasses really were on it this morning and they almost never care about it one way or the other. Perhaps some spawning activity happened before bedtime last night, I'm not sure what else to think. I didn't see anything bright orange in there however. Thanks though. I'll keep this post updated and let you guys know what happens.

Not sure what the wrasses were after but I do know when my clowns lay any fish that gets near them has hell to pay for getting to close. Also my Male stays pretty much on top of them at all times fanning with his fins and tail.

Ah, ok. Yeah there was none of that hyper macho stuff going on lol. Maybe the colony has finally decided to go on strike from all the rubbing huh? Can't put an anemone in, too many sps and other corals in close proximity. They'll have to just go back to hanging out in their corner. Oh well it's not a bad life all things considered.

Update... It's like nothing ever happened, go figure lol. I think the poor guy is just getting tired of getting rubbed on. This colony takes a good pounding day in and day out. It just goes to show you how resilient these polyps can be. But still, might have to re-home it soon if it keeps happening.

Awesome colony! I think it’s cool that they host that bowser. Keep it.
