Thumbs down All soft corals oozing brown, not opening

      Tank: Nuvo20 AIO
      5 months running
      AI PRIME
      MP10QD - 30% Random (Reef Crest Mode)
Media baskets running filter floss and carbon
      Reactor with bio pellets
      ATO
      Ghost skimmer (rarely run it)

      Tank Parameters:
      Temp: 80
      Ph: 8.2
      Salinity: 1.025
      Calc: 420
      Alk: 9.5
      Ammonia: 0
      Nitrate: .5
      Nitrite: 0
      Phos: 0
      Mag: 1280

      Dosing:
      BRS 2-part
Aquavitro Fuel 2-3 times per week

Issue: tank overall has been doing good, not perfect, but good. Haven’t lost anything.
However I came back from being out of town a couple weeks ago and most of my soft corals are oozing brown a little bit and no full polyp extension. I really am struggling to figure out the issue in this tank and why my sps seem to be fine but my softies just never seem fully happy. I do 10% water changes weekly. I used to run Purigen media backers but stopped because I felt I was starving the corals. Only thing I’m still trying to figure out is what intensity is best with these AI primes. Everyone has a different opinion or setting on them. So I have no idea whether it’s too much light, not enough, etc. I took this setting from a reefer with a very successful tank. I am running this setting at only 50% in acclimation mode.

Any ideas why my softies are pissed off and won’t open?

Sounds they’re spitting out zooanthelae. If sps are fine these guys are prob not getting enough nutrient from
      the water.

Looks like a sweet castle not sure what you’re buying by switching the intensities like you’re doing but I doubt that’s the cause. Your lighting seems about how I have my AIs with the blues up and whites much lower but I don’t run for 12hrs, 8 at full intensity. Levels seem fine (especially at 50%)- when I kept softies they would sometimes shed for a couple weeks at a time and not extend- but agree it’s strange that they are all doing it- maybe one is ticking them all off chemically?

Without seeing pictures can't really say but my guess would be they're pooping...Google it...or post pics for a better understanding of what you're seeing

Light output should be a more than enough, I run my primes at almost exactly half your settings in my 20 abyss, averages 90-125 par but that tank is strictly nems & zoas atm. My 60 sps build has a lot of lps that are light acclimated to higher PAR abt 150-200 in the bottom or sides of my tank which is where they sit. They spit zooanthelae and deflate when their not getting enough nutrients in my experience. All my par measurement were measured using the seneye with the updated software for led readings btw.

Sounds like your zooanthelae is growing and the coral are expelling the excess algae it doesn’t need. Give it a few days and they should bounce back. My Tracky just did that, and the next day he was puffed up looking mighty fine.

Oops. Sorry guys I accidentally posted the wrong schedule I downloaded on my phone. This is the actual schedule I’ve been running for two weeks now. It wasn’t synced on my iPad. This is a form of the AB+ conversion for prime that BRS did

Basically it will work OK for a little bit, then the second I dose anything it like almost “resets” in a way and will stop pulling skim and just fill the cup with water. These skimmers aren’t known to be the best. So I’ve don’t run it much because it’s never fully dialed in and it’s completely hit or miss. So I ordered a fuge basket and light I am going to have a fuge in that chamber instead

I figured this could be part of it. What’s the best way to raise nutrients without creating algae blooms or high nitrates. I got come Polylab Polyp Booster and Oysterfeast food I’ve been trying to feed a little more the last couple days

If it was just one coral I’d say yes that’s the case. But like I said it’s most of my softies and there’s been not much polyp extension for weeks

Stopping the puregen was the first step. Adding pho’s is the best bet but its inevitable that a algae bloom will prob happen. The key is slowly raising them.

Got a suggestion to raise my blues and lower intensity on my whites. So trying that also
