      Acrylic reactor cracking

Hey fellow reefers! I have a NextReef MR1 reactor that I use as a cheato growing reactor. I brought the reactor used and set it up for about a year now. I have been noticing that I have been needing to top off sooner than usual. After a close investigation of the sump area I noticed there was salt creep on my reactor. So I took it out and notice that there is all these cracks at the bottom of the reactors. Are these common in these type of reactors? I will post up pictures of the led light strip that is wrapping the reactor. Is it the led that I’m wrapping it cause this?

I have another reactor that is identical to this one and want to set it up as another cheato reactor. I am contemplating if I should do it again or not.

Please let me know if you guys experience this with your reactors.

      Thanks
      Michael

Are you running ozone? Ozone can destroy acrylic

Is the reactor getting too hot?

I have seen the body of a skimmer do that when the air in the enclosed stand got very very hot..

I’m nothing running any ozone nor it gets too hot in the sump area. I’m trying to find out if the led strip got a UV light on it.

Yup, could be. The only thing I know of that will craze acrylic like that is ammonia based cleaners and I’m pretty sure you didn’t use that.

I usually clean my reef stuff with a rag and hot water.
