Mm yeah that's true, I might grab some soon, considering I need to make a stop at petco too for some epoxy lol

Surprised to be the first to ask but, what’s the PH of your newly created salt water? Theoretically, if the ph is above 8.2, you could add Co2 to the bucket, creating carbonic acid which would drive down ph a little (maybe 8.0) but also alk as well. This is going to sound really funny but...unflavored seltzer. Seriously.

I'll check later, but my ph test may be expired too considering I got at the same time as my nitrate test. Grabbing new test kits tomorrow, if RG is open

With the Christmas over, and getting over the illness from bad food, finally had time to get RODI and test the tank. Here are the result for this week. Ph test may not be accurate. I will get new test kit for that along with nitrate and phosphate tomorrow afternoon

Would daily one gallon water change, to help lower the alk and calcium now that I have rodi, be to much? It would be 3% a day

Would not be too much in my opinion.

Cool, I'll start today, then once I get my alk stable at 8 I'll try sps once again. Hope they will live this time

Today's test result. I didnt do a water change since the alk already dropped by this much in one day. Most like will do one tomorrow to help lower nitrates and phosphate. Once I get these stable, I should be good right?

I think you will be ok with a 1 gallon water change and I would absolutely draw that much water while siphoning your sand. Odds that’s where your nitrates are coming from. I also would stop kalk dosing for now as your tank’s demand for alk and calcium aren’t too high yet and the salt you’re using probably has plenty alk and calcium to keep up. The key here removing that gallon of water and slowly adding new saltwater to your tank. Try to spread that gallon out throughout the day or just 1/2 right after you siphon and 1/2 at the end of the day to reduce stress in the tank. The more divisions the better. Treat those water changes as if you’re dosing a fair amount of alkalinity to the tank and spikes of which can irritate coral. Also, ph may drop a little after stopping the kalk but even 8.0 is totally fine. This is probably the safest move for your setup. Many a reefer has gotten to where you are now parameter-wise and has either gone the consistent water change route or something else such as carbon dosing or lots of macro/micro algae and less water changes. Operating costs and level of maintenance has a lot to do with those decisions. Every tank is different and there are many ways to achieve success. It sounds like you’re going the right direction though.

Yeah I have a couple of deadspot that I can't reach with my current siphon, so I ve been stirring up the sand with a spare piece of acrylic to kick up all that detritus in the dead spots. Yeah I think I will do 2 half gallon water changes every other day until I get the alk where it needs to be. I will also be setting up a refugium in the near future. Also haven't used any kalkwasser for the past 3 weeks now

Here's test results for the past couple of days. Do you guys think it is safe to try other sps again or still wait to go under 9 dKH? There was one drop from 10.6 to 9.5 after one day but then it's been holding pretty steady at 9 ish. May go down to 8 something after today's mini water change tho
