Do you need a key to use the Scripps water or something? this is my first time ever trying to use it and for some reason there’s no knob to turn the water on or maybe I’m just in the wrong spot?

You might be at the wrong spot. Are you at the pier, or up the hill a little bit? I’m not sure when the last time you went to get water, but they no longer give the water away at the pier. They moved it up the street.

Yeah I went to the pier first but just went to the location you sent me where exactly in that area is it at? I can’t seem to find it for some reason

I have the key, it's SDReefs!
La Jolla Shores Dr...the NOAA building...no key needed
Do many people still use scripts water? I’ve used it when I first started in the hobby but after that first time I never return to scripps. To many unknowns with their “free” water. Supposedly it’s sand filtered but one time I ended up with a clear shrimp alive in my water lol a bonus if you ask me. Just leads to the question is it really filtered and if so to what extent and how often are they maintained.
I only use home mix salt now as I can have more control of what goes into my tank. What are your guy’s thoughts?
FYI not saying scripps water doesn’t work. Just to many factors of the unknown IMO
I understand it's supposed to be filtered pretty well, and "supposedly" ok after heavy rain even like what we just had, though that itself could be questionable, but what about the recent spill of sewage that came from mexico?
I'm wondering if anyone from scripps can answer that question, or someone knowledgeable of this recent issue.
Using it for 15yrs.
There's a article or thread floating somewhere on Google that explains their filtration process. I'll post the link if I get time to look for it
Used it for a few years when I first started no prob. I switched to mixing my own when I went Sps heavy. Nothing against the scripts water, it was just a preference since I wanted elevated levels over scripts water parameters. I’ll likely use it again for the upcoming softie tank build.
I also spoke with a worker once back when it was still at the pier. From how he explained it they never used all the sand canisters at once, only a portion of them would be used then they would switch over to the other canisters when routine maintenance was required and vice versa. Either way there’s a reason the multimillion dollar aquarium up the street uses the water, I just wouldn’t recommend using it right after heavy rain.
