      BigMike's 2nd build...a little bigger

Thought I would start a thread to chronicle my 2nd build. I'll be upgrading from a 90 tall SeaClear that I put together a few months ago.

I picked up a used 280 gallon Leemar from da6d2003 (Thank you sir) with stand and sump. Brought over two pickups, a crew of people and got her home safe and sound.

Just a little bigger than I had... 84"x30"x25"

      Here's the stand and sump.

I've given the sump a vinegar bath but plan on doing some reconfiguration. I'll be adding filter socks, and possibly changing the layout. It doesn't look like it was put together with Weldon so I might be able to completely overhaul it.

I've got a Geo's SU36R on my 90 and while I love it, I think it's too small for a tank of this size.

      Plans for now.

I'm hitting the stand with an angle grinder and flap discs to knock the rust off, found some pitting under the surface and will try some Naval Jelly to clean the pits out. If that's successful I will respray and seal it.

There's a few teeth missing on the overflow. I'm contemplating leveling out the surface where the missing teeth are and replacing them or shaving the rest of them off and going with gutter guard.

Cabinet will be fabricated, 3-sides that slips around the front or skinned and look at a rare-earth magnet solution.

Return pumps will be dual Cor20s
Lighting, thinking of selling my Hydra26's and moving over to Kessil 360x

That was a steal for the setup congrats!!!

Let me know what you want for the geo sump lol but for real!!

I would cut off all the teeth and get a new one made and attached right behind the where the old teeth were once done you won’t even be able to tell it’s not stock just my thought

      I’ll be following along

Thanks OhioStreetz! I'm very lucky to have gotten the deal I did, I hope to do it right by da6d2003.

The Geo sump already has a wait-list forming but I'll slot you in at #2

Hoping to have this tank up by Thanksgiving or Christmas.

@Drama D... this is going to be for my Royal Gramma and that is all the livestock... he's just a territorial bugger...kidding I don't have a Gramma

Plan is to go mixed reef, will be a very slow process for me I have a 90 that's pretty empty as it is. I'm still learning the hobby but could not pass up this setup.

Continuing to work on the stand, should be about 2 more weeks before I'm ready to respray it.

Fire fish may be a better option for such a big tank, lol.

Slow progress on the stand. Been going after it with a wire wheel on my drill to get the previous Herculiner off and an angle grinder with flap discs for the surface rust. I've found some pitting so picked up some Naval Jelly to go after that. Hoping to finish the stripping by Sunday and will be looking at coating it in white appliance enamel.

Damaged the sump trying to reconfigure it, listed as a PIF if anyone wants to try and repair or salvage scraps from it. Ordering up an Icecap 48XL as the dimensions are nearly identical and it meets the needs.
