Thumbs down Lowballing and pulling fast ones

So recently I have heard from a couple people that have dealt with a member that has offered lower amounts than fair, confirmed price agreed then shows up short changed, shows up with larger bill than needed to try and get the lower price.

Not going to put a name out there but It's a small community and the solid refers all spread word to one another. So burn one bridge you end up burning them all. The member will know who he is, but take it as a word of advice rather than a personal attack. We are all going to he around for a while so try to do better as a fellow reefer. There's other people who have done these things before but it just gets old at a point.

As it is, we live in San Diego aka SDCheaps as we don't like paying anything near retail and we never do pay it. So enjoy it.

We all love deals and we all love hookups but when offered not forced or tricked into.

My issue I got a low price I countered, we agreed. After I spent 30+minutes catching a fish I pulled everything out of my tank and made a mess in the tank doing it. Member shows up with less than agreed offers PayPal, I accept then goes on with a friendly plea for the lower price. I know he could tell I wasn't happy but I was already irritated the fish killed another fish and I spent all that time catching it.

So in the end I sold it but probably won't do business again.

Another member had a coral for sale and for the size it was pretty damn sweet price. The member offered a a low price for it because he lived far away... just cause you don't live nearby doesn't mean the value of an item changes.

Another member agreed upon a price and when member showed up without the proper change, a king for the lower price then offering to pay the difference another time. He ended up adding things to the. Purchase as cash and trade to cover difference.

Things like this are simply uncool. Being honest and sticking to your word or agreements goes a long way in this hobby. Best of luck to you and hope you realize this can lead to people just ignoring you completely, even when you actually are willing to pay full asking price.

Hope this guy really makes it right with other reefers. Happen to me also today. Will not do business also with him. Not going to say any names.

PLEASE stick to your word and set price don't cheat your way out. Hope you learn from this NOT COOL.

I had a similar issue and bumped the general etiquette thread, mainly newer members stringing me along insisting on the seriousness of purchase only to back out last minute. Annoying as f. I should have known better.
On another note, I should be back in town this weekend, plan on heading out to scripts on Saturday for some water if anyone was promised items from me or is interested in anything I had avail, I'll be down the hill and could possibly arrange a drop off/meet somewhere in between.

I had a guy low ball me and he told me if he can pay me later. I dealt with him prior to that and he always followed through. I would ask for payment and he always has excuses that his kid needed the money for college. I see him post items for sale that he got free from his work... but that’s none of my business

Guys I prefer not to mention his name as this was an indirect post for him to see has an affect on how people view someone after pulling these hustles. He didn't steal anything or crazy.. so that's why I don't want to put him on blast.I wouldn't doubt he has read this and will hopefully understand proper bargaining/purchases/trades/sales.
He's not an old school reefer obviously.

Mike why ya gotta put me on blast like that?!?!???

J/K lol...Idk which person in particular but this situation has happened to me a couple times in the last year or so from two different reefers, def annoying and bad business!!!

I mean ya can't blame someone for asking for a better deal and like you said we are spoiled down here on prices for both gear and corals/fish but that doesn't make it ok to pull some of the $hïť like saying you're gonna get something and then showing up with less...that's just f*ćķìng aggravating!!!!

In the end it all comes out in the wash though

Oh geez.... I’ve been a hobbyist here for ~17yrs, and a business for ~11+yrs...

Oh, the stories I can tell..

The overwhelming majority of people I have met, and the (thousands and thousands!) of transactions I have been in have worked out smoothly and happily.

There are 3-4 people I will not do business with under any circumstances.

There are a handful of people that I know will haggle the price down no matter how cheap it is to start with.

There are a handful of people that I call dear friends that if they call me needing help I will drop absolutely everything for.

When I lived in Mira Mesa last year, I had a friend gave my number to someone interested in a few things i was getting rid off. We communicated and we made a deal. Then when he arrived at my place and ready to swap, he said he had to stop by a gas station for gas and had only $5 left from the $20 sale, (in my mind, ***???) told him nicely there's an ATM down the hill. Still had the original deal sold at $20 with him......but dam...
