      Scratches Inside Acrylic Tank

My daughter decided to take the mag float and drag through sand and then “clean” the entire front of the tank. Leaving scratches over the entire face of the tank. I’m assuming there is no way to get these out with water in it and without breaking down tank and buffing out

Let me know if there is any fix. Ugh

I have a sanding kit for my mighty magnet but I’ve never tried it. So I guess it can be done. I think if your just spot sanding a couple small areas it would ok. Not sure if all the acrylic residue from polishing a large area would do anything to your livestock though

A couple years ago a couple kids got a hold of my magnet during a Christmas party and scuffed up the front panel pretty good. I emptied the tank and polished the front panel

Alright thanks. I’ll keep researching. I just set the tank up on Saturday and have 3 Chromis

If you do decide to try and polish with livestock still inside at least adjust the skimmer to a wet skim and maybe add extra mechanical filtration while sanding

Be our guinea pig and try it out. Lol. At least it’s not a fully stocked established tank where you’re risking loss of livestock

3 chromis isnt that bad. Buy or borrow a basic tank buff the. Front out and out them back in and remove scraper after use.

Search YouTube for “micromesh lafishguy.” There’s a video of them using micromesh and a mighty magnet to polish the inside of a reef tank with water, corals, and fish in it.

Thanks ya I just got done watching both videos. I was just about to post it. I already bought automotive sandpaper from 400 to 10000 grit. Gonna try it this weekend

Once you have the tank emptied and prepped. You can get the inside front panel polished in a couple hours

Oh those are some gnarly scratches. My recommendation is to empty the tank. You’ll need to put in a good arm workout to get those ou. And all the water will splill out anyways. And you’ll need to remove the sand since there’s scratches near the sand line and so you don’t make more scratches
