I have a rock full of trash green trash paly's, is there any harm in drilling a plug hole and putting a hammer on top of them? i'm ok if the hammer kills the palys, i just won't want the hammer to die.

I wouldn’t mess with the palys. The trash palys tend to be the ones that make people sick. Not worth it. If you can chip the palys off the rock with chisel without damaging the corals that should be fine. But smashing with a hammer is a big no no.
If drilling through those I'd run carbon after. And the hammer has a 50 50 shot with them they are invasive and toxic
i was afraid that would be the response. i guess i gotta go buy new rock. im trying to shuffle my tank around as my hammers are starting to suffocate each other.
Trash plays are just that... super common and invasive give them away. Or trade for a small frag of something if you need the room.
Google palytoxin and see if the hammer is worth the cost of your life. Palytoxin is the strongest toxin know in the medical industry.
Yup throw that **** away bro get new rock don’t give it away or sell. That’s the same as selling your buddy poison ivy and telling him it’s aloe Vera.
i knew how toxic they are, but i guess i never realized the wide range the toxic worked. i thought it was just airborne (ie. boiled the rock) or if you grabbed them with your hands. another fail by me.
You couldn't have failed, you are still breathing, right?
Who knows how many other folk will read this and learn, and hopefully everyone on here stays safe.
BTW: If you decide to drill the rock, I think I would like to video the event. Same if you boil it, but I will have to don a Level A HAZMAT suit before you begin.
If you dispose of them dry the rock out then wrap it properly in a trashbag ..so a clueless person trash digging or recycling doesn't just grab it
They are ok to have in your aquarium, you just do not want to disturb them to the point where they expel their tissue into the water column. If Undisturbed they are totally fine, but once you penetrate their flesh, that’s a completely different story and you put yourself into a lot of danger.
