This is a good read for those that are not fully aware of the dangers of palytoxin. This family is very lucky they caught it before they or their pets died.

Dang, it.happened again? That's wild. That toxin is so strong it's unbelievable.
I set up a 200 gal after a 2 year break and palys and zoas are 2 of the things I am trying to stay away from this time. My last tank had zoas of numerous kinds covering the foam back wall and I would feel it anytime I put my hands in the tank and had a small cut or scrape on my hands. I keep getting tempted to just do a small island though.
That's scary. =/ Does all palys have the toxins or certain types? Is there a list of the toxic palys and zoas somewhere?
There is no list, I think they all have the potential to be toxic. Just don't do stuff like boil live rock or cut it with a saw that will make dust fly around, dont frag zoas without gloves and goggles, don't eat zoas, and you will be ok.
Yup, this is why you wear gloves, face mask and goggles when fragging, which most don't. One drop in your eye or mouth or even inhaling the vapors after cutting will send you to the ER in a heartbeat.
No lists and not all carry the toxins. It is believed to be mostly button paly types that are a danger. I'll post the links if/when I find em.
As of now ive heard that grande palys along with the genric green ones have caused symptoms but its just a rumor.

Treat every firearm like it's loaded
Treat every zoa or paly like it's toxic
Then you will always be safe
Thanks buddy, I definitely was not joking, even if it sounded a little funny. As you said - it is not worth your life to try to guess which zoas might not be toxic. It is not a great inconvenience to put on goggles, gloves and a mask!
Now, to raptor and philip, I would not let this keep you from having zoas. The actual number of cases of this is very low, and if you just follow a few basic rules like don't boil live rock and don't cut up live rock with a power saw and wear protective gear if you ever frag zoas you will be fine. People who work at aquarium stores handle zoas all day every day for years and if it was really a risky thing to do, they would be dying all the time.

I've heard palys have the toxin but didn't know zoas also may have them... and yeah, I have fragged many zoas w/out gloves/glasses etc w/out problems in the past.... but from now, I'll take extra precautions!
Zoa pie
