This is very sad. We experienced a epidemic here in San Diego, similar to this a couple years ago, and the local starfish have almost completely vanished.

Local starfish were impacted by a bacterial infection. I don't recall them washing up like this incident.
This is gonna stink really bad really quickly!

I know that you’re in San Diego there was a virus that spread. It actually killed most of the starfish at sea world as well because they pull their water from the bay.
I honestly would not be surprised if it’s caused from the radiation from Japan. There were a large amount of scientists saying that the radiation would effect invertebres around the world and that the Pacific coast would see it first, and we did.
